Dr. Mahathir Mohamad

Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the Prime Minister of Malaysia for 22 years. He was the key figure behind the transition of the Malaysia’s economy from being agricultural-based into a newly industrialized market economy. He is noted for his support for liberal Muslim values and has established Islamic institutions such as the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Mahathir established the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission to focus on victims of abuse in Iraq, Lebanon, and the Palestinian Territories. In May 2012, George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and their legal advisers Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee, and John Yoo were found guilty of war crimes. By 2017, Mahathir had registered a new political party and had it join Pakatan Harapan (Pact of Hope), a political coalition. He has been proposed as a possible chairman and prime ministerial candidate of Pakatan Harapan.
