Sheikh Pashazade is the Grand Mufti of Azerbaijan, the elected Mufti of the Caucasus region, and Chairman of the Religious Council of the Caucasus. Pashazade is also the worldβs only Sunni-Shia Grand Mufti, giving each group religious edicts (fatwas) according to their own legal methodology (madhhab), reflecting Azerbaijanβs Sunni-Shia mix. He co-chaired the World Summit of Religious Leaders, held in Azerbaijan in April 2010. He has been spearheading Azerbaijan’s initiatives of promoting dialogue between faiths within the region and internationally. He played a pivotal role in gaining formal recognition for the Church of Latter Day Saints in Azerbaijan in 2024.
