André Carson was the second Muslim to be elected to the US Congress. He was first elected to Congress in 2008, and is now serving his eighth 2-year term as representative of Indiana’s seventh congressional district. Alongside national issues, he has spoken against Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory, voted against a House resolution condemning the BDI movement and, at the end of July 2002, he announced a bill to investigate the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
