Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin is the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq (“unrestricted summoner”) and leader of approximately one-million Dawoodi Bohra community, a subgroup of Shia Ismaili Mustali Tayyibi Muslims spread across nearly 50 countries. Saifuddin oversees India’s largest non-profit urban redevelopment project, as well as 70 schools, multiple colleges, and 600 religious instruction centres. He was elected Chancellor of India’s Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia — the first person to ever hold both positions. He is also the recipient of Kenya’s and Pakistan’s highest civilian awards. Saifuddin emphasises civic responsibility, honest trade, environmental consciousness, and love for one’s country as integral elements of the Islamic faith, which King Charles III has described as ‘an enormous contribution’ to modern society.
